Zion’s Stepfather Updates His Progress, Future in New Orleans
The Zion Williamson saga continues. There never seems to be a dull moment regarding Zion’s playing status this season or how his rehab is progressing.
His stepfather joined the "Jordy Culotta Show" to discuss his progress, Zion’s future in New Orleans, and much more.
Here are a few highlights from the interview.
When asked whether Zion will play this season, Lee Anderson had this to say:
“Do I expect him to play? That’s a tough question. Do I expect him to play? Certainly, I do. If you were to ask Zion certainly he would say the same thing……….I don’t think there’s anything hindering him from doing that right now. The medical staff has given the Pelicans him direction on ramping him up 110% and putting him out here to see what he can do.
Zion's relationship with the City of New Orleans:
“New Orleans was a city we talked about before the draft that would be a great spot for him. We embraced it then and we are currently still embracing it. Now there’s been a lot of speculation and a lot of talk about Zion not wanting to be apart of the fabric in New Orleans. For the life of me I don’t know where that came from…it’s always somebody referring to sources or somebody in Zion’s camp. There are only 4 sources in Zion’s camp. That’s Zion’s Mom, that’s me, that’s Noah, and that’s Zion. If it didn’t come from one of us, they’re not sources.”
Zion on head coach Willie Green:
“They (Pelicans) smacked a home run with that one. They did an amazing job. Willie Green has come in and righted the ship. He’s a young coach and evidently he’s a player’s coach. The players have bought into what he is doing and Zion being in Portland for a while was adamant about getting back to be apart of what was going on. He liked what he saw in Coach Green, he liked the acquisitions and additions made in New Orleans, and really felt great about what was going on.
On where Zion's rehab progress:
“He’s feeling great. Speaking to the Pelicans staff they’ve mentioned that they’re just 1 player away from being where the team needs to be at. That’s enough for me to know that they’re putting their stock in getting Zion healthy and being ready for the long haul.”
