Pelicans Coach Willie Green Provides Injury Update On Zion Williamson
New Orleans, LA - The Pelicans have six games remaining in their regular season are desperately fighting for playoff positioning, Wednesday night's loss to the Orlando Magic dropped the Pelicans to No. 7 in the Western Conference standings. To make matter worse, Zion Williamson appeared to injury his hand during a play in the third quarter. Williamson briefly went back to the locker room, but returned to the game. He played some of the fourth quarter, before Coach Willie Green sat him the remainder of the game.
After shootaround on Wednesday, Coach Green provided an update on Zion's finger to the media. "He’s good. X Rays negative, everything structurally is fine. Just some soreness in his finger.” Coach Green went on to say that Williamson is day-to-day before committing any timeline on whether he would play Friday night against the San Antonio Spurs. New Orleans is already without Brandon Ingram, who is nursing a hyperextended knee injury. Ingram has been doing light shooting and bike exercises, but no timetable is set for his return.
New Orleans has one game remaining on it's current six-game home stand, before heading West for a four-game road trip, including a game against the Phoenix Suns on Sunday. Phoenix and New Orleans are currently tied with a record of 45-31, but the Suns have the tiebreaker. The top six teams in each conference automatically qualify for the playoff, while seeds 7-10 matchup in the NBA Play-In Tournament for a chance to make the playoffs. The Pelicans have played in the Tournament for the past two seasons.
