Report: Jordan Hawkins Signs With Nike
New Orleans, LA - Nick DePaula from Boardroom reports Nike has signed shoe deals with 13 rookie players, including New Orleans guard Jordan Hawkins. The Pelicans drafted Hawkins as the 14th overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.
The drafting of Hawkins by New Orleans provided a necessary need for three-point shooting. The Pelicans were second to last a season ago in three-point attempts. Hawkins averaged 7.6 three-pointers a game at the University of Connecticut for attempts, which would have been No. 1 on the Pelicans a season ago.
Hawkins led the Huskies to a National Championship last season and was considered the best pure shooter in the draft. During this year's preseason, Hawkins averaged the fourth most points (10.5), shooting 33% from beyond the arc.
The 13 rookies signed by Nike include No. 1 overall pick Victor Wembanyama, No. 2 overall pick Brandon Miller, and the Thompson twins, among others. The specific terms of the agreements were not disclosed. Jordan Hawkins and the New Orleans Pelicans open their season Wednesday on the road against the Memphis Grizzlies.
