Pelicans Guard Receives Medical Update Ahead Of Season Opener
NEW ORLEANS – New Orleans Pelicans guard Jose Alvarado will continue his rehabilitation program and will be re-evaluated in two weeks after an evaluation by Dr. Robert Anderson of Charlotte, North Carolina. Alvarado reaggravated his sprained right ankle during his return to play program.
On Sept. 18, NBA Insider Shams Charania reported Alvarado was injured and would be held out of this year's FIBA World Cup for the Puerto Rican National Team. His availability for training camp was questionable.
In February, the Pelicans guard suffered a stress reaction to his right tibia that caused him to miss the remainder of the season. The goal of holding him out during the FIBA World Cup was to ensure he'd be healthy when training camp started. That is now in jeopardy.
In 61 games played last season, Alvarado averaged 9 points and three assists off the bench. In January, he scored a career-high 38 points against the eventual-champion Denver Nuggets. Alvarado was named MVP of the Rising Stars Challenge during the 2023 NBA All-Star weekend event.
The Pelicans open the 2023-24 NBA Season on the road against the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday, Oct. 25.
