Pelicans Re-Sign Wallace to 2nd 10-Day Contract
On Monday, the Pelicans announced that forward Tyrone Wallace is signing another 10-day contract with the team. The 6’5 guard originally signed on March 11 and has appeared in 4 games. Previously this season, he was in the G-League playing for the Long Island Nets. In 16 games, Wallace averaged 21 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists. He shot 45% from beyond the 3-point line.
Wallace has been getting some solid minutes with the team so far. He averages nearly 16 minutes per contest in his four games and right above 4 points a game.
His initial signing made sense when Brandon Ingram (hamstring) and CJ McCollum (Health and Safety protocols) were out, and another ball handler was necessary.
It's prudent to keep him with Ingram is still nursing a hamstring injury, and Devonte Graham is dealing with hip soreness.
Wallace is a former All-Pac 12 first-team honoree from his college days at Cal and was a finalist for the Bob Cousy award his junior year. That award is given to the nation’s top Point Guard. Although he didn’t win, his skills as a ball-handler and shooter can’t be denied.
Details of the contract have the team paying Wallace $99,380 while the team takes a cap hit of $95,930.
The deal will put Wallace on the team until roughly March 30, and they can decide what they will do with him after.
There certainly could be a reason to keep around a little longer, especially if he logs more minutes and produces on the court.
