Pelicans: Trey Murphy III To Miss 10-12 Weeks
NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Pelicans' forward, Trey Murphy III, underwent a successful partial meniscectomy and received a biologic knee injection this afternoon. The procedure was performed by Dr. David Altchek at the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) in New York. The team anticipates a full recovery for Murphy III in 10-12 weeks and a return to basketball activities.
On Tuesday, Trey Murphy III suffered a partial meniscus tear in his left knee during a workout. As a result, New Orleans must pivot to find a replacement for the third-year sharpshooter in the lineup. Last season, he shot 40.6% from the perimeter. The Pelicans drafted Rookie Jordan Hawkins in the first round to accentuate the scoring. During the 2023 Summer League, Hawkins averaged 12.9 PPG in the team's five matches. Expect former first-rounder Dyson Daniels, Naji Marshall, Dereon Seabron, and E.J. Liddell to have extra playing time while Murphy rests and rehabs from the surgery.
New Orleans could seek a trade or free-agent acquisition should any complications arise from the injury.
