Cade Cunningham Named MVP Of Rising Stars Game

Detroit's superstar in the making was named MVP of the Clorox Rising Stars game after helping lead his team to a championship.

Four former NBA legends drafted up teams comprised of first and second-year players and Rick Barry's squad, led by Detroit's own Cade Cunningham, took home the championship. The first game was to 50 and the championship game was to 25. Cunningham left his mark on both.

Detroit's No. 1 overall pick was impressive in both games for Team Barry. In game one, Cunningham scored 13 points and helped put Team Barry into the championship game. Once there, he knocked down the biggest shot of the mini tournament giving his squad the inside track to the trophy.

Cunningham's team took home the championship trophy and then he obviously took home the MVP trophy, but it was his comments after the game that should have Pistons fans most excited.

"I wanted to have fun first, but more than anything I wanted to win," Cunningham said. "All these good players, these big time coaches — I wanted to showcase my talents. I'm happy I was able to go out there and get a win."

Cunningham also talked about how his team came together and took things seriously in order to win. Pistons fans are hoping that Cunningham preaches the same message around Little Caesars Arena.

"I think we all have a passion about it," he said. "We had a big time draft. We had the right guys on the right team and we all wanted to compete and win. The bigger the stage, the better I want to perform."

Cunningham had five points, three assists and two rebounds in the championship game to 25 to solidify his MVP efforts. Tomorrow, he'll compete in the skills challenge before taking in the main event on Sunday, where I'm sure he'll be picturing himself playing in that same game down the line. If the season so far and Cunningham's performance in the Rising Stars game is any sign of the future, he'll be back for the big show very, very soon.
