Detroit Pistons Come Back to Beat The Oklahoma City Thunder 112-103
What a game. At one point, you would have thought the Pistons were dead in the water. But, the team fought back in the second half to erase a fifteen-point deficit and win the game. Here are three takeaways from the game!
The Defense Showed Up in The Second Half
The Pistons allowed the Thunder to shoot 46% from the field in the first half, but it was a completely different story in the second half. From the start, the Pistons were able to block shots and force turnovers, leading to points on the other end. Players who were torching the Pistons in the first half such as Tre Mann were held in check by the Pistons' defenders. While Shai Gilgeous-Alexander had another monster game with 33 points, the Pistons contained him in the fourth quarter by forcing him to take tough shots, notably Isaiah Stewart, who did not buy his pump-fakes.
Saddiq Bey Finding His Rhythm
Bey has quietly emerged as the scorer Pistons fans expected him to be for the Pistons these past five games. Today, he had 25 points, and more importantly, he went 8-8 from the line, which was big-time down the stretch. Bey is relying less on the three-point shot as of late and is finding other ways to score. Whether it is a poster dunk or a tough finish at the rim, we may finally be seeing the next level of Saddiq Bey.
Diallo And Duren Carrying The Bench
The Pistons' bench has been a problem all season, but today was different. Hamidou Diallo provided instant energy through his offensive rebounding. In the second half, he wreaked havoc on the defensive end and forced turnovers, which led to easy points for the Pistons. Jalen Duren came back after missing several games from an ankle sprain and wasted no time making an impact. He blocked shots and even finished a layup at the rim after losing his shoe!
