Detroit Pistons Tie NBA Record in Matchup vs Pacers
Throughout the course of the season, the Detroit Pistons' roster has gone through multiple iterations. With all the trades and signings the've done, they tied an NBA record Wednesday night against the Indiana Pacers.
Before this game, the Pistons announced that Ausar Thompson and Isaiah Stewart were being shut down for the rest of the season. Down two rotation players, Monty Williams had to go deeper into his rotation.
Among the players to see playing time against the Pacers was Chimezie Metu, who signed a 10-day contract earlier that day. Two-way player Buddy Boeheim also briefly got playing time in the 122-103 loss.
Metu and Boeheim were the 29th and 30th players to appear in a game for the Pistons this season. This ties the NBA record previously set by the Houston Rockets in 2021.
Being without key parts of their rotation, the Pistons struggled to stay competitive against the Pacers. Cade Cunningham did a little bit of everything, but it wasn't enough to keep Detroit in the mix. In 29 minutes of action, he finished with 23 points, six rebounds, and 10 assists. Jalen Duren had a double-double of his own, posting 11 points and 12 rebounds.
As a rebuilding team, the Pistons haven taken a flier on a lot of talent this year to see who fits the core. They also sought out players they feel can be a key piece for the team moving forward. Most notably, Simone Fontecchio and Quentin Grimes.
Coming off their loss to the Pacers, Detroit will be back in action Friday taking on Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics.
