Detroit Pistons vs. Oklahoma City Thunder Preview, TV Channel, Injury Report
The Pistons will look to snap a three-game losing streak against the 4-5 Oklahoma City Thunder Monday night. The Thunder are also coming off a two-game losing streak, last losing to the Milwaukee Bucks 108-94. Both teams are deep into their respective rebuilds, and we will see a plethora of young talent on the floor from both teams. Here are two storylines to pay attention to for this game!
Cade Cunningham vs Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
Two premier guards in this league will be going at it tonight. Cade Cunningham has had himself a nice stretch over the past six games, notching over 20 points in four of them. He has looked comfortable, and more importantly, aggressive in these stretches. He has found his home in the mid-range shot and hopefully can continue to punish opponents that give him space. However, he faces a potential MVP candidate in the making in Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Gilgeous-Alexander, or SGA for short, has been on a tear this year. The fifth-year guard is averaging 30.4 points a game, along with six assists, four rebounds, two steals, and a block. The Thunder have to feel good about that Paul George trade they made back in 2019.
The Pistons’ Core vs the Thunders’ Core
As mentioned before, both teams have been rebuilding for the past couple of years and have been building a core of young players for a brighter future. When two teams that have been rebuilding for some time face each other, you have to consider the bigger picture. These types of games allow you to kind of get a sense of where the team’s core is relative to other teams, similar to when the Pistons played the Magic in the home opener. For the Thunder, players such as Josh Giddey, Luguentz Dort, Tre Mann, Ousmane Dieng, and Jalen Williams have been playing significant minutes. You can’t forget Aleksej Pokusevski and Chet Holmgren either, though both players are injured. For the Pistons, players such as Saddiq Bey, Jaden Ivey, Isaiah Stewart, Jalen Duren (if he plays), Isaiah Livers, and Killian Hayes will have their opportunity to shine tonight.
