Pistons Rookie Reacts to Viral Slam vs Nets

Ausar Thompson shares his thoughts on his viral dunk vs Nets.

On Thursday night, the Detroit Pistons faced off against the Brooklyn Nets. Thanks to multiple standout performances, they were able to get back in the win column. Led by Cade Cunningham and Jaden Ivey, Detroit secured a 118-112 win on their home floor.

Among the other standouts for the Pistons was rookie standout Ausar Thompson. He did a little bit of everything in the win, finishing with 14 points, seven rebounds, three assists, one steal, and one block. On top of this, he also had a highlight play that went viral on social media.

Coming into the league, Thompson was known for his athleticism. This was on display against Brooklyn, as the rookie forward broke down his defending before soaring to the lane for a monster dunk.

After the game, Thompson was asked about this play in particular. He stated that he liked the matchup, and played through the scenario in his head. Knowing he had a speed advantage, Thompson created the separation he needed to clear a path to the rim.

"I saw a matchup I liked. He gave me a runway. He was slower than me so I knew I just had to sell going one way," Thompson said postgame. "I saw the whole thing before it happened. Once I got him on my hip, I don't think anyone can jump with me and block it."

This play turned a lot of heads, including other players in the league. Later that night, Thompson got a shoutout from LA Lakers star LeBron James for his impressive display of athleticism.
