With one of the worst records in the league this year, the Detroit Pistons are likely picking in the top five of the 2024 NBA Draft. Over the past week, countless prospects have declared to enter the pool of prospects. One of the latest to do so is Alex Sarr, who is projected to be one of the first players off the board.

Sarr is one of the more interesting prospects in this class, standings at 7-foot-1 with a 7-foot-4 wingspan. He took a more non traditional route to the NBA, playing professionally overseas the past few years. Sarr is coming off a season with Perth of the NBL, averaging 9.4 PPG, 4.3 RPG, and 1.5 BPG.

In terms of potential and upside, Sarr is arguably the top prospect in the 2024 class. He has remarkable size, and moves well on the floor. The soon to be 19-year-old is a capable ball handler, and is a threat when getting downhill. Because of the way he moves on the floor, Sarr could play the power forward or center.

If the Pistons were to land the top pick, they’d have to have some tough conversations about Sarr. The upside is clearly there, but his fit on the roster is questionable. While he could make things work alongside Jalen Duren in the frontcourt, he isn’t a threat from beyond the arc.

Detroit already has spacing issues, and bringing in another prospect who isn’t a strong shooter could complicate things. That said, given Sarr’s potential, the front office could draft him and figure out the rest later. Passing on a prospect like him could be a decision the organization would end up regretting a few years down the line.
