Gary Trent Jr. Pops Up on Injury Report for Raptors Ahead of Celtics Game
The Toronto Raptors are now expected to be without Gary Trent Jr. on Saturday night against the Boston Celtics.
Trent is listed as doubtful with right foot plantar fasciitis, the team announced. It’s the first time Trent has popped up on the injury report this year.
Toronto had hoped to be back at almost full strength Saturday with Precious Achiuwa nearing a return. Achiuwa remains questionable with a left groin strain, though the latest update suggested he had resumed practicing.
Trent appeared to be taking part in drills Friday and was seen working alongside Raptors coach Darko Rajaković. He had not initially been listed on the injury report.
If Trent is indeed out, expect Toronto to lean more heavily on Otto Porter Jr. as the team’s backup shooting guard. Porter has suddenly become a valuable player for the Raptors off the bench after missing almost the entire season last year. He’ll likely be joined by Malachi Flynn, Chris Boucher, and potentially Jalen McDaniels.
It’s unclear if the injury has been bothering Trent throughout this season. He’s averaging just 10.4 points while shooting 36.9% from the floor. He did not appear injured in Toronto’s most recent game Wednesday night against the Dallas Mavericks.
Christian Koloko is the only other absentee for Toronto as he remains out with an ongoing respiratory issue.
The Celtics have yet to announce their injury report as they will be on the second night of a back-to-back. Al Horford did not play Friday due to rest but is expected to return Saturday.
