Report: Ime Udoka to Interview for Rockets Coach
The Toronto Raptors aren't the only team supposedly interested in Ime Udoka this summer.
Udoka, the former Boston Celtics head coach currently suspended for violating team policy, is reportedly set to interview for the head coaching vacancy in Houston, according to Kelly Iko. The Rockets and Detroit Pistons have both reportedly conveyed interest in Udoka since the end of the season, per The Athletic.
Toronto has made no official decision on its head coaching position. Raptors coach Nick Nurse said he would take some time following the season to reflect on his time with the organization. Nurse has one year remaining on his contract and is unlikely to play out next season without an extension.
It's reportedly expected that the organization will consider parting ways with Nurse, per the Toronto Star. Udoka's name is among the candidates mentioned as a possible successor for Nurse should the organization begin a coaching search this summer.
Nurse has been tied to the Rockets organization should he be let go by Toronto. He has connections to Houston dating back to his time as the G League coach for the Rio Grande Vipers, the Rockets' minor league affiliate.
Toronto interviewed Udoka in 2018 prior to hiring Nurse as Dwane Casey's successor.
