Giannis Antetokounmpo to Miss Raptors Game With Calf Injury
The Toronto Raptors will catch a break Wednesday against a shorthanded Milwaukee Bucks team without the former NBA MVP.
Giannis Antetokounmpo had been listed as probable to play but has since been downgraded to out as he rests his right calf strain, the Bucks announced. He's joined by Jae Crowder and Chris Livingston who have both been ruled out as well.
It makes a tough game a little easier for the Raptors who are battling injuries of their own. OG Anunoby (right index finger laceration) and Gary Trent Jr. (right foot plantar fasciitis) are both doubtful to play while Dennis Schröder (right knee soreness) is suddenly questionable.
While Toronto was able to make do without Anunoby and Trent on Monday night against the Washington Wizards, it wasn't the prettiest offensive performance. The lack of three-point shooting created spacing issues for the Raptors who were forced to rely more heavily on Gradey Dick and Otto Porter Jr. to log minutes.
The Bucks will now turn to Damian Lillard to be the focal point of their offense Wednesday and it's likely Toronto will throw multiple looks at him including Scottie Barnes. While Malachi Flynn has looked better over the past few games, Lillard would be a very tough assignment for the fourth-year guard.
Khris Middleton could also see an increase in his workload against Toronto. He's been held at about 20 minutes this season but it's possible the Bucks begin to increase that number with Antetokounmpo sidelined.
Toronto will provide final injury updates at around 5:45 p.m.
