Drake Praises Raptors Coach Following Tirade Directed at Officials
It was just a few weeks ago that Drake joined the Toronto Raptors broadcast and wondered aloud who the new coach was roaming Toronto's sideline.
“This guy isn’t Nick Nurse,” Drake told the TSN broadcast. “I haven’t been here in a while. I don’t know where we’re at.”
All it took was a legendary tirade from Toronto’s new head coach Darko Rajaković to earn Drake’s recognition.
Rajaković let loose Tuesday night following a devastating 132-131 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers in which the Lakers attempted 36 free throws to Toronto’s 13. In the fourth quarter alone, Los Angeles went to the free-throw line 23 times, repeatedly getting what appeared to be the benefit of the doubt that Toronto couldn’t earn at the other end.
“That’s outrageous,” Rajaković told reporters post-game. “What happened tonight, this is completely BS. This is shame. Shame for the referees. Shame for the league to allow this. Twenty-three free throws for them and we get two free throws in the fourth quarter? Like, how to play the game?”
Rajaković went as far to suggest Toronto shouldn’t have even showed up because the fix was in for the Lakers to win before tipoff.
“They came to win tonight? If that’s the case, just let us know, so we don’t show up for the game,” Rajaković continued. “Just give them a win. But that was not fair tonight.
The rant went viral and ended up on Drake’s Instagram story with the caption: “Toronto has a real one as their coach this guy is a GUYZER.”
Guyzer is a term used affectionately to describe one’s close friend.
