Report: Raptors Declined Intriguing Trade Offer From Hawks For Pascal Siakam
The Toronto Raptors continue to be at a crossroads with Pascal Siakam with just over a month to go before training camp begins.
There has so far been no discussion of a contract extension between Toronto and the All-Star forward, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania. However, trade talks involving Siakam have been rebuffed by the Raptors or “tempered” by Siakam’s reluctance to sign a long-term extension with any team that trades for him, Charania wrote.
The Atlanta Hawks have been the team most connected to Siakam in trade discussions. Initially, those talks involved Dejounte Murray but he is no longer eligible to be traded having signed a contract extension with Atlanta.
Atlanta did reportedly offer Toronto a deal involving De’Andre Hunter, sophomore AJ Griffin, and draft pick compensation for the Raptors’ 6-foot-9 forward but “the Raptors are believed to have upped the price on any possible deal at each turn,” Charania reported.
Trade talks have now stalled with Atlanta as the Hawks are ready to enter the season with their current roster.
Siakam is currently eligible for a max contract extension worth 30% of the salary cap. He could see that number grow to 35% should he earn an All-NBA nod this season.
Despite the departure of Fred VanVleet this summer, Siakam has never requested a trade from Toronto. Rather, he has made it clear he would prefer to stay with the Raptors moving forward, per Charania.
