Dejounte Murray Extension Complicates Raptors Trade Rumors for Pascal Siakam
Dejounte Murray is not going to be traded to the Toronto Raptors this summer.
Thursday marked the end of whatever rumors were still swirling about a potential Pascal Siakam for Murray deal involving the Toronto Raptors and Atlanta Hawks as the 26-year-old guard inked a four-year extension to stay in Atlanta, making him ineligible to be traded for at least six months.
The noise surrounding those trade talks had quieted in recent days, per Yahoo’s Jake Fischer. The teams had discussed various iterations of trades including the possibility of moving Murray, but trade talks hadn’t progressed in recent days.
“Opposing front offices still believe the Raptors’ high valuation of their players, such as Siakam and OG Anunoby, marks the biggest roadblock to any potential trade of either Raptor,” Fischer wrote before the draft.
Now a deal for Siakam becomes more difficult to find and would require Atlanta to move De'Andre Hunter, Clint Capela, or Bogdan Bogdanovic in order to facilitate a deal for Siakam’s $37.9 million contract next year.
Hunter had reportedly been involved in trade talks with the Indiana Pacers in a separate deal, Fischer reported, but those discussions broke off before the draft.
Toronto had been interested in Atlanta’s first-round pick Kobe Bufkin ahead of the draft and it was possible the Raptors could work out a deal for the Michigan guard prior to him signing his rookie deal with Atlanta. Bufkin, though, has now signed that deal and is ineligible to be traded until next month.
