Dillon Brooks Faces Suspension Ahead of Raptors Game
The Memphis Grizzlies will be without Dillon Brooks on Sunday when they play host to the Toronto Raptors at 6 p.m. ET.
Brooks has been hit with a one-game suspension without pay for initiating an altercation with Donovan Mitchell during Thursday night's Grizzlies game against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
"After missing a layup and falling to the floor, Brooks initiated the altercation by striking Mitchell in the groin area in an unsportsmanlike manner," the league announced. "Mitchell then escalated the situation by throwing the game ball at and pushing Brooks, after which both players continued to physically engage with one another."
Brooks, a Mississauga native and former teammate of Chris Boucher, scored 25 points in Toronto earlier this season while shutting down Pascal Siakam for large swaths of the game.
It should make Sunday's game a little easier for Toronto in what will be the team's final game of this lengthy West Coast road trip. The Raptors will once again be without O.G. Anunoby who remains sidelined with a left wrist sprain.
Memphis has long been connected to Toronto as a potential landing spot for Anunoby should Toronto opt to move the 25-year-old forward at the trade deadline. It's possible Brooks is included in a deal, though the Grizzlies guard remains a crucial part of Memphis' team identity.
