Gradey Dick Explains His Cameo in Drake's Son's Music Video
Gradey Dick was never supposed to be featured in Drake’s 6-year-old son Adonis’ new music video My Man Freestyle. The whole cameo happened by accident.
The Toronto Raptors forward had plans to meet Drake at some point following training camp, Dick said Thursday. That, however, changed when the first-round pick arrived at the OVO Athletic Centre shortly after the team returned from Vancouver earlier this month. He walked into the locker room and saw a ton of cameras at the practice facility.
Dick said he was unaware of the video but was asked to jump in for a brief cameo, alongside Adonis and Drake at the Raptors’ media podium.
“It was so random that no one really knew what was happening,” Dick said.
Raptors Stay Perfect this Preseason as Offense Continues to Take Big Steps Forward
The music video, filmed entirely at the practice facility, already has 1.4 million views on YouTube. The video features Adonis alongside other children playing basketball at the Raptors’ facility, sitting in Toronto’s film room, and working out in the gym.
Dick shared the song on his Instagram featuring highlights of his collegiate playing career at Kansas.
Drake was named the Raptors’ global ambassador in 2013 when then-general manager Masai Ujiri brought him in to mark the beginning of a new era of Raptors basketball. In 2019, Toronto’s training facility, formerly the BioSteel Centre, was renamed after Drake’s brand October’s Very Own (OVO).
Both Drake and Adonis can occasionally be seen sitting courtside at Raptors games. The two sit near the television booths on the same side as both team benches.
