Scottie Barnes Rewrites Raptors Records With Historic Outing
Scottie Barnes is already making franchise history.
It’s taken just three years for the All-Star forward to begin rewriting the record books for the Toronto Raptors. He not only became the first player in franchise history to record four triple-doubles in a single season Monday night, but his fifth career triple-double tied him with Pascal Siakam for the second most triple-doubles for a player in Raptors history. He now trails only Kyle Lowry who recorded 16 triple-doubles in his nine seasons in Toronto.
Barnes did it in remarkable fashion too, recording 21 points, 12 rebounds, 12 assists, and five blocks against the Indiana Pacers, becoming the first player since 1977 to record that stat line or better, Michael Grange reported.
He became just the eighth youngest player since at least the 1960s to record a triple-double with at least five blocks, per Basketball-Reference. San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama set the record earlier this season with a ten-block triple-double against the Raptors.
For the season, Barnes is one of only five players averaging at least 20 points, eight rebounds, and six assists per game alongside Luka Doncic, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Nikola Jokic, and Domantas Sabonis. He’s done it while leading that group in blocks with 1.5 per game with another 1.2 steals per game too.
He surpassed LeBron James for the fifth-most triple-doubles this season and now trails only Sabonis, Jokic, Doncic, and Antetokounmpo who lead the league, respectively.
Barnes is averaging 20 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 6.1 assists while shooting 47.5% from the floor and 34.6% from three-point range this year.
