Scottie Barnes Shares Update on Sprained Ankle
By now, Scottie Barnes knows to play it cautiously when it comes to ankle injuries.
He came into last year for the Toronto Raptors nursing an ankle injury and then injured his other ankle in the third game of the season against the Miami Heat. Add to that a sprained ankle in the playoffs his rookie year, and you can understand why he’d be a little worried.
“It was hurting a lot,” Barnes said Sunday after exiting the team’s final preseason game with a right ankle sprain. “Whenever I get like a they get like a little ankle tweak, I get really scared. I’ve had some of those in my previous past. So just being precautious about it. That was just the main thing.”
Barnes did say he felt good Sunday and was a full participant in the team’s practice. He was not wearing any sort of brace or tape on his ankle.
“I think my ankles heal pretty fast,” he said of his history with sprained ankles dating back to before his NBA career. “I can push through it. I can push through a lot of pain.”
Barnes should be ready to go when the season tips off next week for Toronto.
That won’t, however, be the case for Christian Koloko who remains sidelined with an ongoing respiratory issue that’s kept him out since Summer League in July. Koloko was seen casually shooting alone during the portion of practice open to the media, but it does not sound like he is nearing a return.
