Report: Raptors To Interview Becky Hammon Among Other NBA & NCAA Coaches
The Toronto Raptors are leaving no stone unturned as they continue to search for a new head coach for the 2023-24 NBA season.
With Ime Udoka off the market, Toronto has been granted permission to speak to Golden State's Kenny Atkinson, Milwaukee's Charles Lee, Phoenix's Kevin Young, San Antonio's Mitch Johnson, Sacramento's Jordi Fernandez, Memphis's Darko Rajakovic, Miami's Chris Quinn, among other NBA assistant coaches, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
The Raptors have also reached out to Becky Hammon, the former San Antonio Spurs assistant coach and current Las Vegas Aces coach, per ESPN. Hammon previously interviewed for the Portland Trail Blazers job.
Raptors assistant coach Adrian Griffin has been retained by the team and is reportedly among those being considered to take over for former head coach Nick Nurse.
Toronto is reportedly considering NCAA coaches too including Vanderbilt’s Jerry Stackhouse who previously coached the Raptors 905.
Nurse, meanwhile, remains without many options for his next coaching job. Udoka’s decision to sign in Houston has left the NBA with just one coaching vacancy in Detroit where Nurse is unlikely to sign. It’s possible more jobs open up as the playoffs continue.
