Dennis Schröder's tenure with the Toronto Raptors has come to an end.

The organization has reportedly sent Schröder and Thad Young to the Brooklyn Nets for Spencer Dinwiddie, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported Thursday. The deal is Toronto's second ahead of the 3 p.m. ET trade deadline.

The trade allows the Raptors to get off Schröder's $13 million salary for next season, creating even more salary cap space in the offseason while acquiring the Bird Rights to Dinwiddie ahead of his unrestricted free agency this summer.

Dinwiddie, 30, is a 6-foot-5 combo guard averaging 12.6 points and six assists per game while shooting 39.1% from the floor and 32% from three-point range this season. His value to the Raptors is essentially in his expiring contract this summer.

Schröder joined the Raptors this past summer for the mid-level exception with the expectation that he'd be Toronto's starting point guard. He started in each of the first 29 games for the Raptors before the organization opted to move him to the bench for Gary Trent Jr.

The 30-year-old never quite fit in Toronto as a below-average three-point shooter who couldn't quite mesh in the starting lineup alongside Scottie Barnes. He proved a valuable bench guard, but his salary next season restricted the Raptors' flexibility heading into the offseason.

Young's presence in the deal is essentially to make the salaries match. He was a valuable veteran for the Raptors, acquired in 2022 from the San Antonio Spurs. He began the year out of the rotation for Toronto but proved to be a competent backup forward as the Raptors dealt with injuries in the frontcourt. The addition of Kelly Olynyk, however, made Young's roster spot no longer needed.
