Bradley Beal Trade Could Shake Up Eastern Conference Next Season
Bradley Beal may be on the move.
The Washington Wizards are reportedly having discussions with Beal and his representatives about a possible trade this summer, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. Beal is the only current NBA player with a full no-trade contract in his deal allowing him to pick his destination with control over Washington's return in a deal.
It's unlikely the Toronto Raptors opt to get in on the Beal sweepstakes this summer. The 29-year-old is owed $46.7 million next season and a trade would require the Raptors to give up multiple key players just to make the financials of the trade work.
That said, a Beal trade could shake up the conference as the Wizards pivot toward their long-awaited rebuild. It's unclear where Beal could be heading but his ability to control the return could make for a lopsided trade allowing rival teams to load up for a playoff chase.
The Raptors have yet to tip their hand as to which direction they hope to head next season. If they do look to rebuild around Scottie Barnes, the Wizards could be another team contending for a top pick in next year's draft.
Wizards' forwards Kristaps Porzingis and Kyle Kuzma both have player options for next season and could hit the open market this summer.
