Former Houston Rockets coach Stephen Silas has a new job.

According to ESPN, Silas is joining the Detroit Pistons staff as the lead assistant coach to Monty Williams.

The Pistons hired Williams to a six-year, $78.5 million contract -- the most expensive in the NBA -- last week after negotiations went back-and-forth. Now, Williams is beginning to build his staff and Silas is the first coach on board.

Before being hired by the Rockets ahead of the 2020-21 season, Silas was a well-respected assistant coach for nearly two decades with stints leading the Golden State Warriors, Charlotte Bobcats/Hornets and Dallas Mavericks.

However, his first run as a head coach in Houston was far from successful. Silas went 59-177 during his three years with the team and finished with the league's worst record in 2021 and 2022. In 2023, he improved slightly, finishing with the second-worst record in the league at 22-60. Silas was fired on Apr. 9.

Now, he'll take his talents to the Motor City where he looks to help develop the likes of Cade Cunningham, Jaden Ivey and the No. 5 pick in this year's draft.
