HOUSTON — Jalen Green and Fred VanVleet gave a slight glimpse into their chemistry during the first day of training camp inside the Legacy Center in Lake Charles.

VanVleet threw a half-court alley-oop pass to Green, who finished the transition play with a two-handed dunk. The alley-oop was an example of the chemistry Green and VanVleet have established since their offseason training in July.

The Green-VanVleet pairing displayed continuity during the Houston Rockets' 110-104 preseason victory over the Miami Heat. They scored 20 points apiece inside the Toyota Center while staying true to VanVleet's prediction to create a "good backcourt" duo with Green.

"It looked good tonight for sure," VanVleet said. "I think the way coach [Ime Udoka] is doing the rotation of having us come in and out, I think we have done a great job of pacing ourselves and finding our spots. We will continue to grow by drawing and kicking while finding each other. We will be able to lead upon our guard play early on for us."

Green and VanVleet played three exhibition games together. And while on the court, it appears they have already developed a balance of how to play off each other.

Against the Heat, VanVleet began the night by scoring 10 points during the first quarter. But once Green began to find his offensive rhythm in the second period, VanVleet took a step back and became more of a facilitator.

The veteran All-Star point guard accounted for six of Houston's 22 assists during the Rockets' preseason finale. Green, who recorded four assists in the win, said he "liked" the ball movement against the Heat. He scored 17 of his 20 points during the first half.

"He's like big bro already," Green said on media day. "We laugh, joke and play around outside of basketball. He has already taken on that big brother role. He has told me that he is going to teach me how to be a leader and how to be a better version of myself. I am relying on him."

VanVleet signed a three-year max contract with the Rockets on the first day of free agency on July 1. Two days later, Green and VanVleet began working out together in Los Angeles with performance coach Mike Guevara.
