Rockets' Amen Thompson Must Become Better Shooter

Rockets guard Amen Thompson has all the talent in the world, but Bleacher Report thinks there is a serious flaw with his game.

Houston Rockets number four overall pick Amen Thompson has shown much promise with his athleticism and his ability to get out and run on the fast break. But some people are skeptical when it comes to the rookie guard because of an issue he has with his game.

In an article posted by Bleacher Report, the top picks of this past year's NBA draft were evaluated and a skill that needed improvement was identified. For Thompson, that thing was his shot-making, as well as his three-point shooting.

There is absolutely no question that Thompson is skilled. With his 6-6, 215 pound frame, it's remarkable how fast Thompson moves and how well he is able to pass for someone of his height. But all of those skills do come with drawbacks.

Thompson shot an abysmal 23 percent from three-point range with Overtime Elite. And in today's NBA, most everyone needs to be able to shoot the long ball, especially if you play either of the guard positions.

And with Thompson playing on a team with more than its fair share of ball-dominant players, including Fred VanVleet and Jalen Green, he will need to learn how to play off the ball. And by far the biggest part of that is becoming a reliable shooter if he wants to make an impact early in his career.

Despite his past shooting struggles, Thompson was a top five pick for a reason. Even with defenders playing off of him, he will still be able to get to the rim due to his outstanding athleticism. And if he adds a consistent three-point shot to his arsenal, the sky just may be the limit.
