Jabari Smith Jr. led the Houston Rockets to a 100-99 win against the Portland Trail Blazers to begin their 2023 Las Vegas Summer League tournament, but their comeback victory came at a price.

Late in the fourth quarter inside the Thomas and Mack Center, rookie point guard Amen Thompson suffered a right ankle injury and left the game with 58.8 seconds remaining.

According to ESPN, the Rockets have ruled Thompson out for the remainder of Summer League due to a Grade 2 ankle sprain and will be out two to three weeks. ESPN also added that Thompson will be in a walking boot for at least a week.

"I'm just focused on the regular season, to be honest," Thompson said. "If I cannot play, then it is on to the next. I am going to have a lot of opportunities to play."

Before injuring his ankle, Thompson had put together a solid Summer League debut by contributing on both ends. He finished the game with 16 points on 6-of-13 shooting, five assists, four blocks, four rebounds and three steals in 28 minutes.

Thompson was the second rookie who endured an injury during their Summer League debut Friday night.

Trail Blazers' Scoot Henderson left the game with a right shoulder injury midway through the third quarter. Henderson finished with 15 points, six assists and five rebounds. His first-half performance led Portland to a 53-47 halftime lead over the Rockets.

"Depending on who I play and my teammates, I can score or I can facilitate, I am versatile in that way," Thompson said. "It was cool getting to play Scoot."

Thompson's injury will interfere with Sunday's highly anticipated match-up against the Detroit Pistons and his twin brother Ausar Thompson. During his introductory press conference in June, Ausar jokingly said he wanted to "kill" his brother during their Summer League battle upon learning of the schedule.
