HOUSTON — The Houston Rockets came up short during their pursuit of veteran big man Brook Lopez Saturday afternoon. According to The Athletic, Lopez has agreed to re-sign with the Milwaukee Bucks. His deal is worth $48 million for two years.

The Rockets are still in the running for veteran forward Dillon Brooks, who will meet with Houston on Saturday. Despite missing out on Lopez, the Rockets landed Fred VanVleet Friday night. He agreed to a three-year deal worth $130 million.

"This summer has always been important to us for a lot of reasons," general manager Rafael Stone said. “We’re going to have the ability for the first time to really bring in veteran players and see if we can mesh the thing together.”

Lopez began his career in 2008 as a first-round pick (No. 10 overall) by the then-New Jersey Nets. He has played nearly every role in his career, from an All-Star center with the Nets in 2013 to a role player with the Bucks since 2018.

Lopez played a major role in helping the Bucks win the 2021 NBA championship, averaging 11.5 points and 5.3 rebounds during the six-game series against the Phoenix Suns.

The 7-foot-0 center has averaged 16.7 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.8 blocks across 946 career games. Lopez is coming off one of the most productive seasons of his career after averaging 15.9 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.5 blocks for the Bucks during the 2022-23 season.
