Houston Rockets Draft Pick Cam Whitmore Called Up Ahead of Road Trip

After being assigned to the Houston Rockets G League affiliate, Cam Whitmore has been called up to join the team as a result of his great play for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.
In this story:

Cam Whitmore was seen by many as the steal of this past year's NBA Draft, being selected with the 20th overall pick by the Houston Rockets after being projected by most sources to go somewhere in the lottery.

Whitmore has not had the start to his career that some would have hoped, as he got little to no playing time through the team's first four games. He was then sent down to the Rockets' G League affiliate, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, where he dominated. Now he has been called back up and will get another chance to prove himself.

In his three games with the Vipers, Whitmore averaged a fantastic 24.3 points and 6.7 rebounds per game shooting 49.0 percent from the field and 48.4 percent from beyond the arc. This is exactly what the Rockets know Whitmore can do, and that is the main reason why the team has called him ahead of its next road trip.

The draft that the Rockets had was viewed as the best of any team, as they made out with two of the best players in the draft. Amen Thompson and Whitmore could be two of the keys for the Rockets this season and could propel the team to wins.

The Rockets next few games are against some of the toughest teams in the Western Conference. The first of their tests will be against James Harden and the rest of the new-look Los Angeles Clippers in the teams next taste of NBA In-Season Tournament action.
