Rockets Ex GM Daryl Morey Hinting at 76ers' Trade Up for Cam Whitmore?

Philadelphia 76ers president Daryl Morey nearly traded for Houston Rockets forward Cam Whitmore during the NBA Draft.

Great minds tend to think alike.

When Houston Rockets general manager Rafael Stone used the No. 20 pick to draft Cam Whitmore in last month's draft, it's possible that his former boss may have been disappointed.

Daryl Morey, who acted as the general manager for the Rockets from 2007-20, reportedly eyed a trade up for Whitmore in an attempt to keep the Villanova forward in Philadelphia.

"There was another prominent player who fell in this year's draft that we were trying to move up for. I couldn't understand why they were falling because I've seen him play live multiple times here in town," Morey said via The Philadelphia Sports Network.

It isn't 100 percent confirmed that Morey is talking about Whitmore, but the Rockets rookie checks off both boxes as a prominent player who fell in the draft and a local player to Philly.

It would have been hard for the 76ers to trade for Whitmore, considering they didn't have any picks in the draft to work with. However, it's a compliment knowing that another team was interested in the player you got, so the Houston front office should give itself a pat on the back knowing it got approval from its former boss.
