HOUSTON — Whether it's a coincidence or not, Eric Gordon is playing at his best with the NBA trade deadline five days away. And a source told Inside the Rockets there is a "strong possibility" Gordon will be traded ahead of the deadline on Feb. 9.

"I always want to play well," Gordon said. "I always want to see the team do well, and that’s just what it is. I just want to be playing at a high level — that’s all I ask for. We continue to play hard, like we have been lately, and give ourselves a chance to win games."

Gordon scored a season-high 28 points on 10-of-15 shooting during the Houston Rockets' loss to the Toronto Raptors Friday night.

His performance marked the third consecutive game he set a season-high in points. And over the previous three games, Gordon's on-court efforts led to the Rockets winning two out of their last three.

He has averaged 25.7 points on 53.1 percent shooting during the stretch. But coach Stephen Silas and assistant coach John Lucas II have appreciated Gordon more for his veteran presence.

Gordon stated that he has been teaching Houston's young corps how to win, especially in close games. His message has resonated within the locker room. And a few players have taken Gordon's teachings to help elevate their respective games.

"I've learned so much from him because he gets to the basket so easy," Josh Christopher said. "We have a similar game, and he knows how to shoot the heck out of the ball. I've been learning as much as I can."

The trade interest in Gordon remains high for several teams ahead of the deadline. He can provide a lift to any franchise hoping to boost their championship odds. The Stein Line reported that the Milwaukee Bucks had offered Houston four second-round picks in a deal for the 34-year-old sharpshooter.

Gordon said he has heard his name in trade rumors in the past. But whether it's for the Rockets or another team, he remains focused on playing basketball at a high level.
