Draymond Green, Khris Middleton Headline Rockets Free Agency Wish List
HOUSTON — The Houston Rockets will have the most money to spend in free agency. And according to the Houston Chronicle, the Rockets are targeting a lengthy list of players.
Houston will have around $60 million in cap space to reshape their roster for new coach Ime Udoka.
Despite the strong possibility of re-signing with the Philadelphia 76ers, a reunion with James Harden remains Houston's most significant pursuit. But the rest of the Rockets' free agency targets goes as follows:
Dillon Brooks (Grizzlies), Bruce Brown (Nuggets), Jordan Clarkson (Jazz), Donte DiVincenzo (Warriors), Draymond Green (Warriors), Rui Hachimura (Lakers), Cam Johnson (Nets), Brook Lopez (Bucks), Khris Middleton (Bucks), Jakob Poeltl (Raptors), Dwight Powell (Mavericks) and Fred VanVleet (Raptors).
"This summer has always been important to us for a lot of reasons," general manager Rafael Stone said. “We’re obviously going to have another couple of picks. But we’re also going to have the ability for the first time to bring in veteran players and see if we can mesh the thing together."
The Rockets have expressed their goal of winning since the jettison of former coach Stephen Silas in April. The hiring of Udoka marked the start of Houston's phase II of its rebuilding project, where the objective for the franchise is to compete for a spot in the play-in tournament to qualify for the playoffs.
Stone believes the Rockets received a head start retooling their roster following the conclusion of the NBA draft Thursday night. Houston used their first-round picks with the selections of Amen Thompson and Cam Whitmore.
Stone acknowledged during his post-draft press conference that the addition of Thompson and Whitmore will not impact the Rockets' plans on July 1.
