HOUSTON — After the Houston Rockets drafted Jalen Green with the No. 2 pick of the 2021 NBA Draft, the former G League Ignite prospect said it did not take long for him to fall in love with the city. And it didn't take long for Green to begin giving back to the community.

Green hosted a Thanksgiving event for underserved families from Houston’s Fifth Ward on Nov. 15. He served turkeys in addition to orchestrating the traditional grocery distribution in drive-up format at Latter Day Deliverance Revival Church.

Green's Thanksgiving event marked the second time in his career he supported Houston's Fifth Ward. Last December, he partnered with Adidas and the City of Houston to unveil an upgraded basketball court at Brewster Park

"Thanksgiving is a time to be around family," Green said. "Sit down. Laugh and smile. I am fortunate to have my family, and there are people who are not fortunate enough to do stuff like that. Food is like the starting kit to being around everyone. It's the best way to give back.

“It’s real homey here. Everyone is so nice and show a lot of love. The food is amazing. The culture is amazing."

Green's Thanksgiving event was a part of the Rockets' Season of Giving, which also featured Dillon Brooks catering meals for 150 Boys & Girls Club members and their families.

Brooks, who previously hosted a basketball clinic at the Morefield Boys & Girls Club in September, participated in the meal servings.

"This shows what I am about, helping kids," Brooks said. "Just showing who I am throughout this community and what I am about. This is the more down-to-earth Dillon. I love to give back."
