Rockets' Jalen Green 'Effective' At Team USA Training Camp
HOUSTON — During the Houston Rockets' final practice inside the Toyota Center in early April, Jalen Green said making the All-Star team and winning more games were his top objectives next season. Green has spent the summer working towards his goals, which has taken a step forward as a member of the USA Select Team.
Friday afternoon in Las Vegas, Green took part in a scrimmage against Team USA, who will represent the country at the FIBA World Cup this summer. According to the Washington Post, the USA Select beat USA’s FIBA World Cup team in two consecutive 10-minute scrimmages.
Per The Athletics' Joe Vardon, Cade Cunningham, the No. 1 pick of the 2021 NBA Draft, was the star of the USA Select Team. But Green, the No. 2 selection by the Rockets, was just as impressive. Vardon wrote that Green "was effective against Team USA."
The 2023-24 campaign will mark Green's third season in the league, and coach Ime Udoka is thrilled to help with his development.
Before joining the USA Select team, several videos posted on social media in late July featured Green working out alongside Phoenix Suns' Kevin Durant and Washington Wizards' Kyle Kuzma.
Green participated in Pro Run games where he displayed improvements made to his scoring arsenal. The exhibition contest also featured Juan Toscano-Anderson, Obi Toppin, and former teammates K.J. Martin and Christian Wood.
Green led the 22-60 Rockets in scoring last season, averaging a career-best 22.1 points on 41.6 percent shooting from the field, 3.7 assists and 3.7 rebounds across 76 games.
