Rockets Jalen Green: 'They Know How Valuable This Kid Is'
HOUSTON — The Houston Rockets have a lot at stake entering Thursday's NBA Draft, and Overtime Elite prospect, Amen Thompson, continues to be the favorite to land with the franchise as the No. 4 pick.
Whichever prospect the Rockets select will be the first of many changes general manager Rafael Stone will make to their subpar roster.
The Rockets could look drastically different by opening night of the 2023-24 season. But according to ClutchPoints' Brett Siegel, Jalen Green will remain a member of the Rockets for the foreseeable future.
"Jalen Green is 21 years old, he's not up for a rookie extension yet and he's already proven to have the ability to score at an extremely high rate. Houston has a lot of brilliant minds within their organization, and they know just how valuable this kid is to their future." — Siegel
ClutchPoints is the latest to downplay trade speculations regarding Green. Yahoo Sports reported in May that the Rockets could have an interest in flipping the young star to accelerate their rebuilding plans, but the rumor has since diminished. A source described Green's trade rumors to Inside the Rockets as "silly and foolish."
Green has been viewed as a cornerstone player since the Rockets drafted him as the No. 2 pick of the 2021 NBA Draft. He has played in 143 career games averaging 19.9 points on .420/.340/.790 shooting splits.
During the Rockets' home victory against the Minnesota Timberwolves on January 23, Green scored a career-high 42 points.
