HOUSTON — The Houston Rockets are working to trade guard Kevin Porter Jr. following charges of felony assault and strangulation due to an alleged attack on his girlfriend, Kysre Gondrezick. The Athletic was the first to report Wednesday evening.

The Rockets have contacted multiple teams to get a deal done for Porter. The Athletic added that the Rockets are willing to add draft compensation as an incentive for Porter.

The 22-year-old guard is entering the first of a four-year $82.5 million contract extension for the 2023-24 campaign. He is slated to make $15.9 million for the upcoming season. The remainder of his contract is non-guaranteed.

New York police took Porter into custody early Monday morning following an alleged attack on Gondrezick. He received felony assault charges following the incident that allegedly left Gondrezick with a fractured neck vertebra and a cut above her right eye.

Porter was released Tuesday on $75,000 bail. He is scheduled to be back in New York on Oct. 16.

"The allegations here are horrific, no question about it," NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said. "I don’t know anything more about the actual facts, other than reading those allegations. We’re not in season. We have a bit of time to decide whether it would be appropriate for him to go to training camp or not."

Porter has appeared in 146 games with the Rockets since 2021. He has averaged 17.2 points on 42.8 percent shooting from the field, 36.1 percent shooting from behind the arc, 6.0 assists and 1.2 steals.
