Rockets List Kevin Porter Jr. As 'Probable' Saturday vs. Bulls
HOUSTON — The Houston Rockets have listed Kevin Porter Jr. as probable ahead of Saturday night's game against the Chicago Bulls inside the Toyota Center. Porter missed Thursday's contest against the Indiana Pacers due to a thigh contusion.
Coach Stephen Silas said Porter sustained the injury Tuesday night during the Rockets' 118-96 loss to the Brooklyn Nets.
He missed all of practice the following day. Porter's latest injury was a setback. He had played in four games following a 20-game absence due to a left-toe contusion.
Porter has shown signs of rust since his return, where he has averaged 12.3 points on 37.2 percent shooting from the field, 38.9 percent from behind the arc, 6.8 assists and 5.8 rebounds.
His best game since his return came during the Rockets' 32-point victory over the San Antonio Spurs. Porter recorded 19 points (7-11 FG, 3-5 3PT) and a season-high 13 assists on Sunday.
"We communicate all the time," Silas said. "We have to talk through these moments and make sure he has someone to bounce his feelings off of. Adversity is hard for everyone, not just for basketball players. My position is to be somebody he can talk to and help through these moments."
Porter's toe injury came at the most inconvenient time. He was in the middle of his best career stretch, averaging 22.8 points on 49.2 percent shooting, 42.3 percent from deep, 6.4 assists and 5.9 rebounds in the eight games before his injury.
His best performance of the season came on Dec. 26 when he led the Rockets to a 15-point victory over the Bulls. Porter scored a season-best 36 points in the win.
