Rockets Owner Tilman Fertitta Has Eyes Set On Victor Wembanyama: 'Pray for Victor'
The Houston Rockets had their eyes set on wins and not ping-pong balls at the start of the 2022-23 campaign. However, at the All-Star break, the Rockets currently stand with the league's worst record at 13-45. And it appears the Rockets have shifted their focus toward the draft.
At least Rockets' owner Tilman Fertitta.
During an interview with KPRC at Galveston’s Mardi Gras celebration Saturday night, Fertitta wasn't shy about showing his adoration for potential top-draft prospect Victor Wembanyama.
"Thank God we’ve got 10 days off. And pray for Victor." — Tilman Fertitta
If the Rockets end the season with the league's worst record, that does not mean the franchise will land the top pick. The NBA has tried to do away with "tanking" in recent years. The decision has led to the four worst teams having a 14 percent chance at the No. 1 pick.
Houston finished with the league's worst record in back-to-back seasons but received the second (2021) and third picks (2022) since the start of its rebuild.
Wembanyama is viewed by scouts and analysts as the league's best prospect since LeBron James in 2003. The Rockets did not have a chance to draft James as a high school phenom. But 20 years later, Houston has a great chance to land the future star of the NBA in Wembanyama.
