Chuck Hayes Departs Rockets For Warriors Front Office Job
HOUSTON — Chuck Hayes' second stint with the Houston Rockets is over. According to HoopsHype Saturday morning, Hayes will join the front office of the Golden State Warriors.
Hayes had served as the Rockets' player and basketball operation staffer since 2017. He held a similar position with the Denver Nuggets in 2016.
As an undrafted forward in 2005, Hayes played seven seasons with the Rockets after joining the franchise before the 2005-06 campaign. He started next to Yao Ming and established himself as an outstanding defensivebig man, despite his 6-foot-6 stature.
Hayes averaged 4.4 points and 5.7 rebounds across 426 games with the Rockets. Following his playing days in Houston, Hayes joined the Sacramento Kings and Toronto Raptors.
"We value his profile and his background is extremely valuable to what we do on the personnel side," then-vice president Gersson Rosas said. "He’s a guy who has a different perspective."
Hayes' departure is the latest personnel change the Rockets have made since the end of the 2022-23 season.
The makeover of the franchise began with the jettison of former coach Stephen Silas on April 9. Following the hiring of Ime Udoka, no one from Silas' coaching staff retained their job. John Lucas, Silas' assistant coach, opted to join a front office job with the Rockets, working as an assistant to general manager Rafael Stone.
