BREAKING: Rockets Sign Australian Center Jock Landale to Four-Year Deal
Former Phoenix Suns center Jock Landale signed a 4-year, $32 million deal with the Houston Rockets, per ESPN NBA Insider Adrian Wojnarowski.
The 27-year-old spent just one season (69 games) in Phoenix, averaging 6.6 points, 4.1 rebounds and one assist in 14.2 minutes per game. Landale's first season in the NBA was the year before as he played for the Spurs.
Landale, who's from Melbourne, Australia, had a late arrival to the association because he played for his home country and Europe from 2018-2021. He's racked up a few accolades during his time across the sea, earning the bronze medal for Australia at the 2020 Olympics and winning the 2021 NBL Championship.
Landale's basketball beginnings on American soil came from his time at St. Mary's University from 2014-2018. Landale averaged 21.1 points and 10.2 rebounds during his senior year.
Landale will likely play the backup role for starting center Alperen Sengun. However, Boban Marjanovic and Frank Kaminsky are also battling for the spot. Neither of them averaged more than six minutes per game last season, though.
Landale is the third free agent to sign with the Rockets as former Toronto Raptors point guard Fred VanVleet signed with them on Friday and Memphis Grizzlies wing Dillon Brooks did the same on Saturday.
