Rockets 'Strong Contenders' To Sign Dillon Brooks?
HOUSTON — NBA Free agency will begin on Friday, and the Houston Rockets will be a major participant. The Rockets will have the most money to spend with a little under $60 million in cap space.
Houston's goal this summer is to add veterans to their young corps as the franchise enters phase II of its rebuild. And according to Marc Stein, the Rockets are strong contenders to sign free agent Dillon Brooks.
"The Rockets' interest in Brooks, meanwhile, appears to be even more clear-cut, with one league source insisting Monday that Houston should be labeled as the favorite to sign the talkative swingman whose playoff struggles and the team tension they spawned swiftly prompted the Memphis Grizzlies to move on from him," per Stein.
The acquisition of Brooks would make a great signing to the Rockets due to his defensive versatility. He is one of the league's top defenders and would automatically enhance the Rockets' appalling defense.
Houston finished near the bottom of the league in defense for the third consecutive year during the 2022-23 season.
Brooks played a major role in helping the Grizzlies obtain a 51-31 record last season averaging 14.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.6 assists. He was a second-round pick (No. 45 overall) by the Rockets during the 2017 NBA Draft. He was traded to the Grizzlies immediately following the draft selection.
