HOUSTON — At the start of the 2023-24 season, the Houston Rockets have plenty to be thankful for a day before Thanksgiving. But Wednesday night inside the Toyota Center, the Rockets were most grateful for a 111-91 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies, which ended a three-game losing streak.

If not for the crazy amount of fouls against Houston, the Rockets would have had a better chance of finding their rhythm in the first half. The Grizzlies got to the free-throw line 21 times between the first two periods. And with 16 makes, Memphis held a 46-45 lead at the half.

Houston's struggles continued during the third quarter until Jalen Green's dunk over Jaren Jackson Jr. gave the Rockets some momentum. Green's dunk to close the third quarter gave the Rockets a 74-68 lead entering the final period. They open the fourth quarter on a 21-8 run.

After his benching against the Golden State Warriors Monday night, Green scored a season-best 34 points on 13-of-26 shooting to go along with four assists. He scored 26 during the second half.

Jabari Smith Jr. added 18 points and eight rebounds, while Fred VanVleet added 16 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Jackson and Desmond Bane led the Grizzlies in scoring with 23 points apiece.

An update on Amen Thompson:

Amen Thompson missed his ninth straight game due to a Grade 2 ankle sprain. Udoka announced during his pre-game availability that Thompson is still trending in the right direction and could return to practice sometime next week.

Up Next:

The Rockets will return to the Toyota Center for their next In-Season Tournament contest, which will be played against the Denver Nuggets on Friday night. They will then begin a quick two-game road trip, starting Tuesday against the Dallas Mavericks. Tip-off between the Rockets and Nuggets is slated for 7 p.m. CDT.
