NBA Free Agency: Rockets Interested in Signing Mavs Center Dwight Powell

Dallas Mavericks center Dwight Powell is receiving interest from the Houston Rockets in free agency.

The Houston Rockets are linked to another center in free agency.

According to NBA insider Marc Stein, the Rockets are interested in signing Dallas Mavericks center Dwight Powell. However, it will be difficult for the Mavs not to re-sign their longest-tenured player.

"Sources say Powell is expected to draw interest from both Cleveland and Houston in free agency, but the Mavericks consider him a key figure in the organization beyond on-court production and are confident that Powell, who after almost nine seasons is by far the longest-tenured Maverick, will re-sign," Stein wrote.

In 76 games this season for the Mavs, 64 in which he started, Powell averaged 6.7 points and 4.1 rebounds in 19 minutes per game.

While the Rockets may lose out on Powell to their Lone Star State rival, their interest in Powell proves that Houston is in the center market.

The team employs Alperen Sengun as the incumbent starter, but with new coach Ime Udoka in the fold, nobody's spot in the rotation is guaranteed.

Free agency kicks off tonight at 6 p.m., where all 30 teams can begin negotiating and reaching verbal agreements with players in and out of the organization.
