NBA Mock Draft: Houston Rockets Take Another PG?

USC point guard Isaiah Collier is one of the top prospects in the 2024 NBA Draft, but does he fit with the Houston Rockets?
In this story:

The Houston Rockets may not be in control of their draft pick this year, but it isn't a massive loss considering they own the Brooklyn Nets' selection.

Given how the Nets blew up their roster by trading Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, this pick could still give the Rockets a very talented player. In Bleacher Report's latest mock draft, the Rockets are slated to take USC Trojans point guard Isaiah Collier with the No. 6 overall pick.

"Scouts sound eager to see how Collier looks as a shooter. He doesn't get much elevation on his jumper, but the 6'5", 210-pound ball-handler did show improvement in 2022-23. He's also demonstrated promising two-point shot-making with his touch and off-balance mid-range jumpers or runners," Bleacher Report writes.

While Collier has a boatload of NBA potential and could emerge as a talented player, the Rockets making this move would be very questionable.

Houston just signed Fred VanVleet to a three-year deal for $130 million and drafted Amen Thompson with the No. 4 pick in this year's draft. Adding Collier into the mix would simply create a logjam at the position.

Collier would have to be adaptable to playing off-ball with the amount of Rockets who are already needing the ball in their hands. Having several playmakers on the floor at all times is an important necessity in today's NBA game. However, if the team truly wants to commit to a certain direction, Houston must invest in the players who are already on the roster.
