Russell Westbrook to Join Rockets in Orlando on Monday
Rockets guard Russell Westbrook will arrive in Orlando on Monday, according to head coach Mike D'Antoni.
D'Antoni said Houston's superstar point guard is "about ready to land" on Monday afternoon as he begins his stay at the Walt Disney World resort. Westbrook will quarantine in his room until he passes two COVID-19 tests at least 24 hours apart, per NBA protocol.
"[Westbrook] is about ready to land here pretty soon." D'Antoni told the media on Monday. "It will give everyone a little pep in their step."
Westbrook announced he tested positive for COVID-19 on July 13. The 2016-17 MVP missed the Rockets' flight to Orlando on July 9, quarantining in his home before Monday's arrival.
"I'm currently feeling well, quarantined and looking forward to rejoining my teammates when I am cleared," Westbrook tweeted. "Thank you for all the well wishes and continued support. Please take this virus seriously."
The Rockets were without both of their MVPs for their first five days in Orlando. James Harden also missed the flight on July 9, arriving in Orlando on July 15. Harden joined Houston practice two days later as the Rockets prepare for their first scrimmage on July 24.
D'Antoni noted Westbrook is unlikely to play in the first of Houston's three scrimmages, though the Rockets point guard should take the floor either over the weekend or at the start of next week.
Westbrook and Co. will resume the regular season on July 31 as they face Luka Doncic and the Mavericks. Tip-off is slated for 8 p.m. CT.
