Jalen Green Trade Rumors: Rockets SG to Spurs?

Houston Rockets guard Jalen Green could be traded this summer.

Houston Rockets guard Jalen Green has struggled with inconsistency in his third NBA season.

The back-and-forth campaign has many questioning whether the former No. 2 overall pick is a good fit with the Rockets long-term.

Some of those who believe he may support Bleacher Report's proposed trade idea, which would Green to the San Antonio Spurs for Blake Wesley and a 2024 first-round pick from the Toronto Raptors.

"For Houston, moving Green means more shots for Alperen Şengün, Jabari Smith Jr., Cam Whitmore, Amen Thompson and others. It also gives them a better chance to win now, given that the Rockets have been 8.2 points per 100 possessions worse with Green on the floor this season (16th percentile, via Cleaning the Glass)," Bleacher Report writes.

"Getting the Raptors' first-round pick this season (currently projected at No. 8 overall) is the primary return here, allowing the Rockets to add another talented prospect, although one they won't have to give a contract extension until after the prospect's third season at the earliest. Green is eligible for a rookie extension this summer."

Green, 22, is averaging 17.9 points per game this season so far for the Rockets, which is a step back from the 22.1 he averaged a year ago. That being said, he didn't have Fred VanVleet alongside him in the backcourt, and the veteran guard has taken some opportunities for him to be the primary offensive guard.

However, with his extension coming soon and others down the line needing to be paid, a decision on Green needs to be made ... and trading him would essentially allow the future to be a little more flexible.

It may end up being a mistake if the Rockets do end up trading Green, but his inconsistent play as of late has made him expendable and available in potential deals.
