Mavericks' Jae'Sean Tate Trade 'Turned Down' by Rockets: Report
The Houston Rockets are hours away from the NBA Trade Deadline, and one of the main people who could be on the block is fourth-year forward Jae'Sean Tate.
It appears that there is interest from around the league in Tate, including from their in-state rival up north ... the Dallas Mavericks.
The Athletic's Kelly Iko is reporting that the Rockets turned down an offer from the Mavs that would have sent Tate to Dallas.
"Historically, Houston has valued their players highly," Iko writes. "For example, there were conversations with the Dallas Mavericks, one of the teams that have been monitoring Tate’s situation, league sources said, but the Mavericks have only two second-round picks available that were offered. The Rockets, according to those sources, insisted on three.
The price of three second-round picks would replenish the Rockets for what they gave up in acquiring Steven Adams from the Memphis Grizzlies in a deal they made last Thursday.
Tate, 28, is averaging a career-low 4.5 points per game in nearly 18 minutes per night. His numbers aren't reflective of his defensive abilities, which is why the price for him is as high as it is.
Could Bulls Veteran Drummond Fix Rockets' Big Man Problem?
The emergence of rookie Cam Whitmore has shrunk Tate's role within the rotation, but the Rockets are willing to keep him if they can't find an offer they like.
The NBA Trade Deadline is set for 2 p.m. CT.
