NBA Trade Rumors: Rockets Interested in Blazers' Malcolm Brogdon
The Houston Rockets have already shown some activity ahead of the NBA Trade Deadline, acquiring Steven Adams from the Memphis Grizzlies last week for Victor Oladipo and three second-round picks. However, there's a chance that the team may not be done.
The Athletic is reporting that the Rockets are looking at acquiring another guard and they have their eyes on Portland Trail Blazers guard Malcolm Brogdon.
"Elsewhere, the Rockets would like to add another two-way ballhandler, league sources said, one that can play both on and off the ball," The Athletic wrote. "Malcolm Brogdon, currently playing in Portland averaging 15.9 points, 3.6 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game and shooting 41 percent from 3 is a name of interest, league sources said."
With Brogdon now on the Blazers, a team full steam ahead toward a rebuild, young players and draft picks will be heavily coveted by them. While the Rockets can easily satisfy both of those needs, they'd have to feel confident Brogdon will be the guy who can take the team to the next level.
There is a downside to acquiring Brogdon or a player like him. Adding a veteran guard would likely decrease minutes for rookies Amen Thompson and Cam Whitmore, both of whom have shown to take a step in the right direction in recent weeks.
Jalen Green Urges Rockets to 'Get Out and Run' Following Loss to Timberwolves
Sitting 11th in the Western Conference, the Rockets are riding a very fine line. Do they try and become a buyer in order to have a chance to break their four-year playoff drought? Or do they stay the course of their rebuild and run it back with the team they've got?
Those questions will be answered ahead of Thursday's 2 p.m. deadline.
